{"id":903,"date":"2009-05-16T17:11:16","date_gmt":"2009-05-16T23:11:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/main\/?p=903"},"modified":"2009-05-16T17:11:16","modified_gmt":"2009-05-16T23:11:16","slug":"the-pros-and-cons-of-seeing-terminator-salvation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allouttabubblegum.com\/new-home\/the-pros-and-cons-of-seeing-terminator-salvation\/","title":{"rendered":"THE PROS AND CONS OF SEEING TERMINATOR SALVATION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/terminator-salvation1.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-905 aligncenter\" title=\"terminator-salvation1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/terminator-salvation1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"315\" height=\"487\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I still remember the first time I heard about <a title=\"The Terminator\" href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/main\/?p=132\" target=\"_self\">The Terminator<\/a>.\u00a0 It was 1990 and I was watching the film <a title=\"Predator\" href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/main\/?p=377\" target=\"_self\">Predator<\/a> with my father.\u00a0 My father was a John Wayne fan and I was a Hulk Hogan kid.\u00a0 Still, when I saw <a title=\"Arnold Schwarzenegger\" href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/main\/?p=22\" target=\"_self\">Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/a> for the first time, I knew this would be my new hero.\u00a0 I asked my father if this guy was in anything else and he started talking about these other films. &#8220;In one, he&#8217;s a robot and they shoot him, but he keeps chasing them, they blow him up, blow his legs off, but he just keeps on coming.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another year or so went by and I started seeing tv spots for <strong>Terminator 2: Judgment Day<\/strong>.\u00a0 My older brother and I, not understanding the simple concept that films were released into theaters first and then much later on home video, went to the local video rental shop and asked for <strong>T2<\/strong>.\u00a0 They gave us <strong>The Terminator<\/strong>, and I was hooked from the opening score to the last scene of Sarah Connor&#8217;s Jeep driving toward a storm in the distance.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly twenty years and two sequels later, we&#8217;ve seen the franchise go from small-but-great to huge-and-successful to campy-and-loud and the main star go from an impervious villain to a slapstick, family-friendly side character.\u00a0 Still, I never stopped being and Arnie fan and I never stopped being a Terminator fan.<\/p>\n<p>Now that there is another Terminator film coming out, I think that it may be prudent to decide whether or not I spend my money on the film.\u00a0 To do this, I must weigh the <em>pros<\/em> and <em>cons<\/em> of the information we have so far.\u00a0 So here we go:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>HOW WAS THE LAST FILM?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/terminator-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-906 aligncenter\" title=\"terminator-3\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/terminator-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"449\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pro<\/strong>: That sudden, dark ending really left us hanging.\u00a0 There is no other way but forward.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Con<\/strong>: Let&#8217;s be honest, the last film hardly fits in with the first two entries of the series.\u00a0 It was campy, the theme was missing, and it completely missed the whole &#8220;No fate but what we make&#8221; theme of the series.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>THE DIRECTOR<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/mcg.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-907 aligncenter\" title=\"mcg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/mcg.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/mcg.png 404w, https:\/\/allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/mcg-242x300.png 242w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pro<\/strong>: In interviews, McG comes off a very nice, earnest fellow, who knows a lot about film and just wants to make a good movie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Con<\/strong>: So does Uwe Boll.\u00a0 Plus, McG is responsible for <strong>Charlie&#8217;s Angels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">THE ACTORS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/terminator-salvation-christian-bale.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-909 aligncenter\" title=\"terminator-salvation-christian-bale\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/terminator-salvation-christian-bale.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pro<\/strong>: <a title=\"Christian Bale\" href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/main\/?p=45\" target=\"_self\">Christian Bale<\/a>, Michael Ironside, Sam Worthington, and Linda Hamilton returning for voice overs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Con<\/strong>: Umm&#8230; damn.\u00a0 I guess I could say that Common has yet to prove his worth, but I have no idea what he&#8217;ll be doing in the film.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>THE RATING<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/pg13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-908 aligncenter\" title=\"pg13\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/pg13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"260\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pro<\/strong>: There really isn&#8217;t a pro for the pg-13 rating, especially as an Action film.\u00a0 Sure, it means the studio can risk more cash on a project, but more money does not mean more quality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Con<\/strong>: The pg-13 rating often forces films to cover up blood, omit swearing (which, in a cyborg-caused apocalypse, I would be frequently heard doing), and edit out plenty of so-called &#8220;acts of violence&#8221; in order to play for for a &#8220;wider audience&#8221;.\u00a0 If this franchise is looking to redeem its integrity, it&#8217;s going to need not to hold back, and I just can&#8217;t be sure that it could do that if it has to pull its punches so that a pre-teen audience can enjoy the film too.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>THE RUMORS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pro<\/strong>: Rumors are that the film is a very dark and awesome depiction of the future, perfectly in line with the tone set by the first two films in the series.\u00a0 And they say there&#8217;s a CGI Arnold cameo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Con<\/strong>: A dark atmosphere could be completely ruined by a bad score, and with Danny &#8220;Everything-Sounds-Like-Batman&#8221; Elfman doing the music, it&#8217;s entirely possible.\u00a0 <strong>X-Men Origins: Wolverine<\/strong> had a CGI&#8217;d Patrick Stewart.\u00a0 And it looked like ass.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>CONCLUSION<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Will I see it?\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know, but probably.\u00a0 With or without Arnold, and whether it&#8217;s McG or Jonathan Mostow, it&#8217;s still a Terminator film and I&#8217;m still a Terminator fan.\u00a0 It won&#8217;t make me love the good films less, but it might make me appreciate them more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kain424<\/strong>, signing out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Discuss\" href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/forum\/\" target=\"_self\">Discuss<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To See or Not to See.
