The Chinese Connection (1972): Breakdown by Kain424<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>A martial arts student returns home to find his teacher dead.\u00a0 Vengeance-fueled violence ensues.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>[THE EXECUTION]<\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>After audiences reacted so positively to Bruce Lee in <a title=\"The Big Boss (1971)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/main\/?p=1289\" target=\"_self\">The Big Boss<\/a>, writer-director Lo Wei quickly produced a follow-up film.\u00a0 This time, Lee would have complete control over his fight choreography and an excellent stunt team made up of new up-and-comers in the business like Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, Yuen Wah, and Ying Gang-Ming (also known as Corey Yuen).\u00a0 The result would be one bad-ass film, by which most others in the genre would be judged.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4661   aligncenter\" title=\"Jackie: &quot;Bruce, you said 'no hair pulling!' &quot;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/bruce-lee-jackie-chan.jpg\" alt=\"Jackie: &quot;Bruce, you said 'no hair pulling!' &quot;\" width=\"303\" height=\"286\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The story is a simple one wherein Lee returns home to find his teacher dead and possibly murdered.\u00a0 He seeks out the cause of his master&#8217;s death and begins exacting revenge, but at the cost of his school&#8217;s future and the lives of his friends around him.\u00a0 Lee handles the acting well enough, but it&#8217;s clear his focus is on the fighting.\u00a0 The battles are powerful pieces of work, iconic and amazing.\u00a0 Most of which pit Bruce against multiple foes and change from hand-to-hand into weapon-based combat and then back again.\u00a0 Lee is shown to be so proficient in the arts, he can kill a man with a single, impossibly powerful punch to a man&#8217;s torso.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, much of the movie focuses on how strong our protagonist actually is.\u00a0 Throughout, he performs feats so amazing they seem to belong in the strongman genre rather than in a kung fu flick.\u00a0 It&#8217;s probably due to this unexpected blend of genre tropes that would contribute to the success of this film. It certainly affected the films that would be made afterword, and in fact, it singlehandedly nearly killed off the swordery flicks that had dominated the genre before it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4668   aligncenter\" title=\"Lee Surrounded\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/3.jpg\" alt=\"Lee Surrounded\" width=\"534\" height=\"232\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sadly, Lo Wei and Bruce Lee had a turbulent time working together on the set, with Lee ultimately deciding never to work with Lo again.\u00a0 This was largely due to the racial conflicts seen in the film, which Bruce was uncomfortable with.\u00a0 Lee would go on to make <strong>Way Of The Dragon<\/strong> and <a title=\"Enter The Dragon (1973)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/main\/?p=1224\" target=\"_self\">Enter The Dragon<\/a>, becoming a major star for his efforts.\u00a0 Meanwhile, Lo Wei would spend the rest of his career trying to replicate the successful formula of <strong>Fist Of Fury<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Anyhow, this one&#8217;s a winner.\u00a0 And while I find the ending to be both abrupt and silly, the film remains just as cool as it&#8217;s lead.\u00a0 Definitely check this one out.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>[HOW BAD-ASS IS THE MAIN CHARACTER?]<\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4669   aligncenter\" title=\"Chen Zhen\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/11.jpg\" alt=\"Chen Zhen\" width=\"492\" height=\"275\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">Bruce Lee is Chen Zhen<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Chen would probably be bad-ass even he wasn&#8217;t played by Bruce Lee.\u00a0 He has the Fist of Fury, a punch that essentially eviscerates its target&#8217;s soul, killing them painfully.<\/p>\n<p>Lee struts about the whole film, wearing a badge of bad-assness on his shoulders.\u00a0 Of course, this doesn&#8217;t mean he&#8217;s too proud to hide from his foes.\u00a0 Chen makes camp in a cemetery on the outskirts of Shanghai, where he spitroasts and eats dogs.\u00a0 A firm believer in either pure force or pure subterfuge, when he&#8217;s not battling multiple enemies he&#8217;s sneaking about their lair in various disguises.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4670   aligncenter\" title=\"rickshaw lift\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/8.jpg\" alt=\"rickshaw lift\" width=\"528\" height=\"237\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Chen takes on dojos full of martial artists, barely taking a hit.\u00a0 He positively OWNS with nunchakus, taking out either hordes of foes or skilled swordsmen. At one point he even lifts up a rickshaw with a man riding in it.\u00a0 Chen is truly bad-ass.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>[THE BODY COUNT: 39]<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This one&#8217;s quite the violent film, opening with a deceased master and ending with a deceased hero.\u00a0 Lee kills 29, making him the deadliest character by far.\u00a0 And though the rest belong to the villains, it could be said that they died because of Lee&#8217;s actions.\u00a0 Whatever your stance is, there are plenty of bodies in this film.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>[MOST SATISFYING ASS-KICKING &amp; DEATH]<\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4671   aligncenter\" title=\"stab\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/9.jpg\" alt=\"stab\" width=\"533\" height=\"233\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Having annihilated the other foes in the Japanese dojo, Lee confronts the master.\u00a0 The fight begins as a hand-to-hand match, but quickly becomes entangled in various weaponry.\u00a0 After the Japanese dojo-master attempts several sword attacks, Lee knocks the blade from his foe&#8217;s hands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4672   aligncenter\" title=\"Adding Assault To Injury\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/10.jpg\" alt=\"Adding Assault To Injury\" width=\"532\" height=\"233\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And while the samurai sword is still in the air, Lee lands several blows before positioning the villain to become the human sheath for his own blade on its return down.\u00a0 After the sword has pierced the unfortunate fellow&#8217;s torso, Lee then throws a right cross and knocks the man to the ground.\u00a0 Overkill?\u00a0 Sure.\u00a0 Awesome?\u00a0 Hell yeah.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>[DUDESWEAT AND MACHISMO]<\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Whatever the relationship between Chen Zhen and his master was, it ran deep.\u00a0 Upon learning of his teacher&#8217;s demise, Chen leaps onto the coffin of the deceased, crying and clawing away at the dirt it is being buried in.\u00a0 That&#8217;s love.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>[EXPLOITATION AND MISOGYNY]<\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4673   aligncenter\" title=\"Tender kiss\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/6.jpg\" alt=\"Tender kiss\" width=\"535\" height=\"234\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Though there are several women shown being beat here, they are all fighters themselves.\u00a0 In fact, the women of <strong>Fist Of Fury<\/strong> are shown to be remarkably well-rounded individuals and occasionally formidable fighters.\u00a0 Bruce Lee&#8217;s love interest is given a personality of her own, complete with moral choices and a character arch.\u00a0 Pretty progressive for a 70s kung fu film.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4674   aligncenter\" title=\"Geisha = Whore\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/7.jpg\" alt=\"Geisha = Whore\" width=\"532\" height=\"233\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;m getting ahead of myself.\u00a0 The CHINESE women are shown in a progressive light.\u00a0 Not the villainous Japanese, whose women are docile sex slaves that cater to a man&#8217;s every whim.\u00a0 And if you have a copy of this film with a good transfer, you&#8217;ll even get to see some Japanese stripper shrubbery.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>[EPIC MOMENT AND BEST ONE-LINER]<\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Japanese show up at Chen&#8217;s martial arts school, issuing a challenge to anyone present to try and defeat them.\u00a0 Their teacher recently deceased, with his most stringent wish being that they never try and be competitive for competition&#8217;s sake, no one at the school answers the challenge.\u00a0 The Japanese mock them for their ways, leaving a large paper sign calling the school &#8220;sick men of Asia.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On his own accord, Chen shows up at the Japanese&#8217;s dojo to return their sign, and personally accept the challenge.\u00a0 Alone and calling himself the &#8220;worst&#8221; of the school he represents, Chen completely decimates every fighter there.\u00a0 Before he leaves Chen makes the two best fighters literally eat their words, tearing apart the sign and stuffing it into their mouths. Which they willingly chew out of shear terror.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4675   aligncenter\" title=\"Eat Your Words\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allouttabubblegum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/5.jpg\" alt=\"Eat Your Words\" width=\"531\" height=\"231\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;Eat. This time you&#8217;re eating paper.
