Action Movie News Round Up: June 3rd, 2012

Tom Cruise’s adaptation of Lee Child’s 2005 novel One Shot, has been retitled Jack Reacher. As most are aware, Jack Reacher is the reoccurring protagonist in Lee Child’s Reacher novels. Paramount must feel the name of the character has more brand recognition. Of course, that was tremendous help for John Carter. – THR

The Cannes Film Festival is usually home to pretentious art house crap. But this time around Avi Lerner (aka Uncle Avi) and Millennium Films managed to sneak in a couple of promo poster for some really good looking action cinema. The first one is for Jason Statham starring, Sylvester Stallone written Homefront, which I’m anticipating quite highly and the second for the newly titled White House Taken, which being a Die Hard formula action film, directed by the perennially underrated Antoine Fuqua, has my anticipation through the roof.

JoBlo have unearthed some awesome pics from the Al Pacino/Christopher Walken buddy action comedy Stand Up Guys. I had no idea this film was being made until I saw those pics, now it’s one of my most anticipated.

The Wrap has word on another old guy mash up. This time Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone are being considered to go against each other in Grudge Match, an action comedy about two aged boxers who are put together to settle their feud from back in the day. Although neither actor is confirmed, both of them are fairly booked out for the foreseeable future.

In what may be something out of my own personal nightmares, The Hollywood Reporter has an in depth analysis on G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s bump to 2013, explaining, amongst financial reasons, that Channing Tatum will take place in reshoots in order to expand his screen time. Granted he’s been receiving good reviews for his work in Haywire and 21 Jump Street (I’ve seen neither), pulling a G.I. Joe film starring The Rock and Bruce Willis less than two months before release to add more Channing fucking Tatum literally must be an attempt to get me to kill myself.

Joe Carnahan went above and beyond what everyone thought him capable of to deliver The Grey, and that’s coming from a fan of his. Twitch Film is reporting that 20th Century fox have greenlit his passion project Continue. A film in the mold of Groundhog Day and Source Code about a man who lives the same day ad infinitum, however in this one he’s being chased by assassins. This totally should star Jason Statham and be his meta ‘JCVD’ type film.

The Expendables 2 TV Spot. It’s fucking amazing.

Lastly, farewell to Richard Dawson, known to action fans around the world as the villainous Damon Killian in The Running Man. He passed away from esophageal cancer at age 79.
